DE Potato Guide
Each year from July through September, Delaware potato growers are busy harvesting Delaware's #1 fresh-market crop. Potatoes have a long history as an important food source, and are still considered by many as a major vegetable crop in Delaware. Today's potato production of between 4000-5000 acres are handled by only 14 Delaware potato farms. The most popular variety produced and packed in Delaware are round whites. Russets, reds and yellow flesh are still grown but on a much smaller scale. Virtually all Delaware potatoes are grower harvested and packed for fresh consumption. In order to protect and encourage Delaware's potato farmers, RMA offers a yield protection policy in the First State.
